Toward Environmentally Sustainable Datacenters

Sharing datacenter infrastructure improves energy efficiency, but whether strategic users participate in consolidated systems depends on management policies. Users who dislike allocations or perform poorly may deploy private, less-efficient systems.

On March 17, 2022 (ET), Penn’s Boon Thau Loo (RCA Professor of Computer and Information Science, and Associate Dean for Graduate Programs) and Benjamin C. Lee (Professor of Electrical and Systems Engineering, and Computer and Information Science) discussed addressing these challenges by combining insight in system architecture with methods in game theory and statistical learning. They illustrated this perspective for several fundamental challenges in datacenters such as stable power delivery, fair resource allocation, and performance analysis, as well as discussed future directions in environmentally sustainable computing.

This event was part of the 2022 Penn Engineering Emerging Research Virtual Series, in which Penn Engineering faculty present their emerging research.
